1953 Topps #82 Mickey Mantle

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115

Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Superb high-grade example of this classic Mickey Mantle card, bordering on Near Mint condition. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's second Topps card is the key to the 1953 Topps set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. This striking example has only the slightest hint of wear to the corners, and is centered 35/65 L/R and 40/60 T/B. The colors are bright and crisp. Extremely crisp and clean, both front and back. This is a very strong example for 1953 Topps, an issue which is so condition-sensitive due to its flush-to-the-border design, with an overall appearance stronger than its technically accurate grade of Excellent to Mint. This card was sold at REA in 2010 and has been consigned to this auction directly from the buyer at that auction. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,115
