1952-1955 Red Man Tobacco Complete Set Run (4 Sets) - All with Tabs!

Starting Bid - $2,000, Sold For - $6,463

Total of 204 cards representing complete sets of all four years of Red Man Tobacco. All the cards are with tabs. Twenty cards are graded and encapsulated by SGC. These are very sharp sets, far superior to those normally seen. While approximately 50% of the cards in the total of all four sets technically grade Ex to Nr/Mt or better, almost all of the lower-grade cards (which, with just a few exceptions, grade from Vg to Vg-Ex) have been downgraded due to very small faults and have an Ex or better appearance. 1) 1952 Complete Set of 52: Grades 4% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 16% Ex to Ex-Mt, 80% Vg to Vg-Ex. Keys: #1A Stengel (Vg/Ex), 1N Durocher (Vg), 2N Ashburn (Vg), 3A Berra (Vg/Ex), 6A Doby (Vg), 8A Feller (Ex), 9A Fox (Fr), 9N Irvin (Vg), 12N Kiner (Vg), 13A Kell (Vg), 15A Minoso (Vg), 15N Mays (Ex), 16N Musial (Gd/Vg), 17N Reese (Vg), 18A Robinson (NM/MT 88), 18N Roberts (Vg/Ex), 19N Schoendienst (Vg/Ex), 20N Slaughter (Vg), 21N Snider (Vg), 22N Spahn (NM 84), 23A Ted Williams (color added, otherwise Vg), and 24A Wynn (Vg). 2) 1953 Complete Set of 52: Grades 10% Nr/Mt, 25% Ex to Ex-Mt, 65% Vg to Vg-Ex. Keys: #1A Stengel (Ex-Mt), 3A Berra (Ex), 3N Ashburn (Vg), 5A Fox (NM 84), 5N Campanella (NM/MT 88), 6N Kluszewski (Ex), 8A Kell (Vg-Ex), 10A Rizzuto (Vg), 10N Reese (NM 84), 11N Roberts (Vg-Ex), 12N Schoendienst (Vg), 13N Slaughter (Vg-Ex), 14A Wynn (Vg/Vg-Ex), 14N Snider (Vg-Ex), 15N Kiner (Vg), 17A Lemon (Vg), 18A Mize (Ex-Mt), 19N Spahn (Ex), 21N Wilhelm (Vg-Ex), and 26N Musial (Ex). 3) 1954 Complete Set of 50: Grades 20% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 60% Ex to Ex-Mt, 20% Vg to Vg-Ex (two lesser). Keys: #1N Ashburn (Vg-Ex), 2N Cox (NM/MT 88), 3A Fox (Ex-Mt), 4A Kell/Boston (Ex-Mt), 4N Erskine (NM+ 86), 5N Irvin (NM 84), 6N Kluszewski (NM 84), 7A Minoso (NM/MT 88), 9N (NM+ 7.5), 10A Pierce (NM/MT 88), 10N Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 11A Piersall (NM/MT 88), 11N Spahn (Ex), 13N Campanella (color added in the upper left corner, otherwise Ex-Mt), 15N Reese (Ex), 16A Ford (NM 84), 16N Snider (Vg), 17A Rizzuto (Ex/Ex-Mt), 18N Roberts (Ex), 19N Slaughter (Ex-Mt), 20A Berra (EX/NM 80), 21A Lemon (Vg), 22N Hodges (Vg-Ex), 23N Mathews (Ex), and 25N Mays (EX/NM 80). 4) 1955 Complete Set of 50: Grades 8% Nr/Mt to Nr/Mt-Mt, 46% Ex to Ex-Mt, 46% Vg to Vg-Ex with a few lesser. Keys: #1N Ashburn (Vg), 3A Ford (Ex), 3N Hodges (Vg), 4A Fox (Fr), 4N (NM/MT 88), 5A (EX/NM 80), 7N Mays (Gd-Vg), 9N (NM 84), 10N Spahn (Vg-Ex), 12N Wilhelm (NM 84), 14A Wynn (Gd-Vg), 16A Berra (Vg), 17N Reese (Vg), 18A Doby (Vg), 18N Schoendienst (Vg), and 19N Snider (Fr). Red Man Tobacco cards are far rarer than most 1950s baseball cards. Because of their tabs (which were designed to be cut) and method of issue, they often have condition problems. Many consider them to represent one of the best values of all cards from the era. This is very attractive complete set run of these unusual cards. The cards are bright and crisp, and display far better than their technically accurate assigned grades. The equivalent SMR value for just the twenty SGC-graded cards (not including the 184 ungraded cards) is $4,015. Total 204 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $6,463
