1950 Bowman Complete Set (252)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,645

70% range from Vg to Ex (averaging Vg-Ex), and 30% lesser (Pr to Gd-Vg). The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a complete set of 1950 Bowman and over the years have consistently found it to be among the most elusive sets of the era. Do not be fooled by the technically modest grades. This is a very attractive set! Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Gd), 3 DiMaggio (Gd), 6 Feller (Fr), 8 Kell (Ex), 11 Rizzuto (Gd-Vg), 19 Spahn (Vg), 21 Reese (Fr), 22 Robinson (Gd-Vg), 23 Newcombe RC (Gd), 32 Roberts (Fr), 33 Kiner (Gd-Vg), 35 Slaughter (Gd), 37 Appling (Vg-Ex), 39 Doby (Ex), 40 Lemon (Vg-Ex), 43 Doerr (Gd), 46 Berra (slight trim), 58 Furillo (slight trim), 59 Branca (Ex), 62 Kluszewski (Ex), 71 Schoendienst (slight trim), 75 Campanella (Vg-Ex), 77 Snider (Vg), 84 Ashburn (Gd), 94 Boudreau (Ex), 98 Williams (Pr), 112 Hodges (Vg), 139 Mize (Ex), 148 Wynn (slight trim), 217 Stengel (Pr), 219 Bauer (slight trim), 220 Durocher (Pr), 229 Frisch (Ex). Relatively affordable mid-grade sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this (let alone a hard-to-find 1950 Bowman set) always generate tremendous collector interest. This is the type of vintage set that to many collectors represents the very best value. This is a very attractive low- to mid-grade complete set of one of the most important and classic of all early Bowman issues. Total: 252 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+.
