Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,819

The 1949 Eureka Sportstamps set is one of the most beautiful issues of its era. Featuring 200 players, it is also one of the most ambitious and comprehensive sets of the era. Presented is the finest complete 200-stamp set of 1949 Eureka Sportstamps ever assembled! This is the number-one All-Time Finest and only complete set on the PSA registry. The PSA set registry GPA of 9.37 would be astounding for any vintage set, let alone for this unusual set. This set includes sixteen Hall of Famers, highlighted by Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella. Each stamp has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes eighty GEM MINT 10s, 103 MINT 9s, and seventeen NM-MT 8s. This set has been assembled by an extremely dedicated collector over a period of many years, with the intention of assembling the finest set in the universe. He has succeeded! The 1949 Eureka Sportstamps have long been overlooked by collectors and because of grading are now just beginning to receive the attention that they deserve. As suggested by the individual grades and its status as the number-one All Time Finest set ever assembled on the PSA registry, this is a simply remarkable set. The PSA grades are as follows: Eighty stamps are graded GEM MINT 10: including #46 Newcombe, 48 Reese, 49 Robinson, 50 Snider, 88 Kluszewski, 124 Thomson, 128 Ashburn, and 191 Musial. 103 stamps are graded MINT 9: including #2 Frick RC, 3 Southworth, 25 Spahn, 31 Branca, 33 Campanella, 36 Furillo, 39 Hodges, 101 Durocher, 120 Mize, 144 Roberts, 165 Kiner, 182 Garagiola RC, 197 Schoendienst, and 198 Slaughter. Seventeen stamps are graded NM-MT 8: #1 Chandler RC, 20, 21, 22, 23, 71, 80, 141, 161, 172, 176, 177, 181, 192, 193, 196, and 200 (last card in set). All of these cards are the highest- or second-highest graded examples in the entire PSA Population Report. The consignor has invested years in assembling and upgrading this set. This set lists for $900 in Nr/Mt condition in The Standard Catalog . It is our experience that a vintage set such as this, in such extraordinary high grade, let alone the highest-graded set ever assembled, will be valued by the market at a significant premium to price-guide values. Total: 200 stamps. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open) SOLD FOR $3,819
