Extremely Rare 1950 "Blue Tint" #5 Warren Spahn on Full Box of Royal Desserts Pudding

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,645

In 1950, if you were walking down the supermarket aisle, you would have seen unopened boxes of "Royal Desserts," exactly as offered in this lot: the front displaying the company logos and the reverse featuring a package design card (intended to be cut from the box) with an illustration of a major league ball player. One dedicated collector had the foresight to realize what a remarkable collectible this would someday be and he kept the box intact and unopened. This box has been carefully guarded from the elements and the dessert tray for over sixty years. Offered is a complete unopened box of Royal Desserts pudding featuring the extremely rare blue-tint variation of #5 Warren Spahn (2nd paragraph ends "...shutouts, 7.") on the reverse, preserved in a most improbable and original state. We can't imagine that too many boxes have survived unopened like this. The first unopened example we have seen of this rare box, it may very well be unique. The box (3-1/2 x 2-7/8 x 1-1/8 inches) shows normal shelf wear and a few minor creases on the card. Excellent condition. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,645
