1948 Leaf Hermanski and Aberson Variations PSA-Graded Collection (2)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,175

Offered are two exceedingly scarce high-grade variation rarities from the popular 1948 Leaf baseball series: 1) "Hermansk" variation of #102 Hermanski (PSA EX-MT 6). Hermanski is an extremely important card in the 1948 Leaf set. Because of a printing error, this card is known to exist with and without the "i" in "Hermanski.” The rare without-the-"i" printing-error card is very well known as one of the most famous and sought-after of all postwar error cards. This card is a solid Ex-Mt example, with four square corners displaying just the slightest hint of wear, bold colors, and centered slightly to the bottom right. There is an unusual imperfection that has occurred in the printing process. At a glance it might appear that the text has "bled through" from the back to the front, but what has really happened is that when it was printed, the sheets were stacked on top of one another while still wet, in this case causing a slight transfer of ink from the reverse (text) of another sheet to the obverse of the offered card. 2) "Short Sleeve" variation of #136 Aberson (PSA NM-MT 8). This card was issued with Aberson wearing a jersey with long sleeves or short sleeves. This variation, with short sleeves, is by far the rarer of the two, and one of the rarest of all 1948 Leafs. The card is centered to the bottom left, with bright, crisp colors, sharp corners, and a perfectly clean reverse. Two solid high-grade examples of these important rarities, which are on just about every master 1948 Leaf set builder’s want list. The total SMR value for the assigned grades is $1,500. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200+. SOLD FOR $1,175
