1948 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits Complete Set (33)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $940
Complete 33-card set of 1948 Hall of Fame Exhibits (plus 13 duplicates for a total of 46 cards). These unnumbered black-and-white (in some cases green-tint) Exhibit cards feature all-time great Hall of Famers, and no doubt instilled a great appreciation of baseball history in youngsters of the day. The 1948 Hall of Fame Exhibit cards were issued on cardboard stock and each card has the player's brief biography printed along the bottom. From a very old-time collection, this set has been stored away in a closet for decades, possibly since its year of issue. The cards in this set are bright and fresh. The set grades Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt overall (the thirteen duplicates are of lesser quality, averaging Vg-Ex) and is naturally highlighted by many of the great legends of the game, including Ty Cobb (2), Lou Gehrig (2), Rogers Hornsby (2), Walter Johnson, Christy Mathewson, Babe Ruth (two different poses), Tris Speaker (2), Honus Wagner, and Cy Young (2). This set was reproduced in 1977 and the reproductions (which are printed in various colors) sometimes cause confusion. This is an original high-grade set (plus some duplicates) of this classic and often overlooked Exhibit Supply Company issue. Total: 46 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $940
