1948 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits Complete Set: #2 PSA Registry! (33)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,350

Presented is an extraordinarily high grade complete set of 1948 Baseball's Great Hall of Fame Exhibits. This is literally one of the finest sets of this classic issue ever assembled in the history of collecting. It is the number-two All-Time Finest set on the PSA registry. The PSA set registry GPA of 5.97 is particularly extraordinary for these condition-sensitive oversized cards. The set is comprised exclusively of Hall of Famers such as Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, two Babe Ruths, Lou Gehrig, Cy Young, etc. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes one NM-MT 8, four NM 7s, twenty-three EX-MT 6s, and five EX 5s. This set has been assembled by an extremely dedicated collector over a period of many years. In our opinion, 1948 Baseball's Great HOF Exhibits have long been overlooked and because of grading are now just beginning to receive the attention that they deserve. As suggested by the individual grades and its status as the number-two All-Time Finest set ever assembled on the PSA registry, this is an incredible set. The PSA grades are as follows: One NM-MT 8: Tinker. Four NM 7: Chance, Collins, Mack, and Mathewson (it is interesting to note Mathewson's name is misspelled "Matthewson"). Twenty-three EX-MT 6: Alexander, Bresnahan, Clarke, Cobb, Cochrane, Duffy, Evers, Frisch, Gehrig, Griffith, Grove, Hubbell, Jennings, Johnson, Lajoie, Plank, Ruth (swinging), Ruth (with bats), Sisler, Speaker, Waddell, Walsh, and Young. Five EX 5: Chesbro, Hornsby, Keeler, McGraw, and Wagner. Eleven of these cards are the highest- or second-highest graded examples in the entire PSA Population Report. The consignor has invested years in assembling and upgrading this set. This set lists for $500 in Nr/Mt condition in The Standard Catalog (which we can't help but think, graded or ungraded, is very low). It is our experience that a vintage set such as this, in such extraordinary high grade, let alone the second-highest graded set ever assembled, will be valued by the market at a very significant premium to price-guide values. Total: 33 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $2,350
