Large 1900-1925 Baseball "Comic" and "Novelty" Postcard Collection (470)

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,528

Baseball has been a popular theme for amusing postcards since the turn of the century. Presented here is the largest collection of comic baseball postcards we have ever offered. This amazing collection, consisting of 470 postcards, includes examples from nearly every cataloged set, as well as numerous rare and unusual individual examples (no complete sets are included here). The vast majority date from 1900 to 1925, but a few later examples can be found. Approximately ten percent of the cards are duplicates. It is extremely difficult to fully express in words and images the sheer enormity and scope of this collection, the likes of which would be almost impossible to assemble today without investing many years of effort and searching. Collections like this are always fun to research and we would not be surprised to find that this grouping ultimately yields a number of hidden "gems." A large majority of the cards bear writing on the reverse and have been mailed. Overall condition ranges from Fair to Excellent, averaging Very Good. This is a unique opportunity to obtain an extraordinary and diverse collection of comic baseball postcards. From the Ron Menchine Collection. Total: 470 postcards. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,528
