Enormous Vintage Baseball Postcard Collection (525)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,113

This collection of baseball postcards is notable both for its quantity and its vintage nature. A total of 525 cards make up the group, the overwhelming majority of which date between the years 1900 and 1930. Real-photo postcards dominate the collection and nearly sixty-five percent of the postcards feature team images. Approximately twenty-five percent picture one or more ballplayers posing together, while the remaining ten percent is miscellaneous in nature. Many exceptional images are contained herein, many of which can probably be found nowhere else, given their provincial nature. Nearly all of the teams and players pictured on these cards are local town or amateur clubs, although a few minor league clubs are surely represented as well. While most of the names and faces are unfamiliar to us, a few Major League stars can be found, including Honus Wagner, Joe DiMaggio, and Jackie Robinson. Also included here are a number of panoramic postcards and sixteen postcards relating to the famed House of David ball club. Collections like this are always fun to research and we would not be surprised to find that this grouping ultimately yields a number of hidden "gems." Approximately thirty percent have been inscribed and mailed. The majority of the cards display normal handling wear commensurate with their age and former use. This is an outstanding collection unto itself, including many fascinating and unusual rarities. In Very Good condition overall. From the Ron Menchine Collection. Total: 525 postcards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,113
