1912 John McGraw Real-Photo Postcard
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $529
Real-photo postcard of Giants manager John McGraw posing on the field at the Polo Grounds. McGraw is pictured wearing a fielder's glove as he stands on the infield dirt near first base. The printed caption along the base reads "Manager McGraw of the New York Giants." Although the card is undated and bears no postmark, it can be pinpointed to the year 1912 based upon the one-year-only uniform style pictured here. McGraw led the Giants to the pennant in 1912, but lost the World Series to the Boston Red Sox in eight games (one game ended in a tie.) The postcard (5.5 x 3.5 inches), which bears no writing and has not been mailed, displays a small circular stain in the lower right corner that permeates to the reverse; otherwise in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $529
