1934-1936 R318 Batter-Up #64 Dizzy Dean - PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,410
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. One of only nine examples graded at this level by PSA, with just one example graded slightly higher (NM-MT+ 8.5). Outstanding ultra high-grade example of Hall of Fame pitcher Dizzy Dean from the classic 1934-1936 R318 Batter-Up set. This card is a pack-fresh gem! Perfectly crisp and clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners, and a flawless image of Dean in a throwing pose. The R318 Batter-Up set is universally recognized as one of the most significant of all prewar baseball-card issues. This is a very sharp-looking card, with the card background complete and intact. All Batter-Ups are rare to find in NM-MT condition. Of the 5,655 R318s graded to date by PSA, only 495 have received a grade of NM-MT or better. This card (submitted for grading by REA) was very carefully chosen for purchase by our consignor in the early days of conventions in the 1980s, long before the advent of professional grading, precisely due to its outstanding condition. This is a tremendous high-grade example of one of the key cards in the R318 Batter-Up set and one of the 1930s most classic bubble-gum cards. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $1,600. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,410
