1935 Four-On-One Exhibits Complete Set (16)
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938
Complete set of sixteen cards from the 1935 Four-On-One Exhibits series. Thirteen cards grade Ex or better, and three cards are in slightly lesser grades. This is a particularly sharp-looking set! The key card from the 1935 Four-On-One set features photos of Boston Braves stars Babe Ruth, Frank Hogan, Wally Berger, and Ed Brandt (Ex). This, along with his 1935 Goudey card, was Ruth's last card ever issued as a player. Ruth left the Yankees following the 1934 season to join the Boston Braves. He stayed with the Braves only a few weeks, playing in just twenty-eight games, before announcing his retirement in late May 1935. Also featured in the set is a card of Yankee Hall of Famers Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Lefty Gomez, and Bill Dickey (70/30 L/R, otherwise Ex). This card is one of the few Four-On-One Exhibits to feature four Hall of Famers. These Four-On-One Exhibits are far rarer than many other cards from the era and present an extraordinary value for quality cards from the 1930s. Total: 16 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $2,938
