1932 R328 U.S. Caramel #32 Babe Ruth PSA EX-MT+ 6.5
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $19,975
Graded EX-MT+ 6.5 by PSA. Spectacular high-grade example of this classic Babe Ruth card. This is one of Ruth's rarest 1930s cards and one of the key cards to the U.S. Caramel set. The 1932 multisport set produced by U.S. Caramel is considerably rarer than Goudeys and most other 1930s sets, and has long been recognized as among the most desirable issues of the era. With their distinctive red backgrounds, they are also widely regarded as one of the most striking of all baseball-card issues. This very well centered R328 U.S. Caramel Babe Ruth example is extremely bright and clean, both front and back, with sharp corners displaying only the slightest hint of wear (predominately the lower right). A little too much corner wear in the lower right keeps this gem from grading even higher. The black text on the reverse is crisp, bold, and essentially flawless. The R328 Ruth is also far rarer than Ruth's 1933 Goudey counterparts, especially in high grade. Being the last card in the set, the R328 Ruth tended to gravitate to the bottom of the stack, exposing it to much more wear than other cards, and thus making high-grade examples far more difficult to find than most R328s and most other 1930s Ruth cards. This card (submitted for grading by REA) was very carefully chosen for purchase by our consignor in the early days of conventions in the 1980s, long before the advent of professional grading, precisely due to its outstanding condition. The SMR value for a PSA EX-MT 6 is $6,750. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $19,975
