1927 Exhibits Complete Set (64) Including Cobb, Ruth, and Gehrig

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,350

Complete set of sixty-four cards from the classic 1927 Exhibits series. This set is highlighted by an incredible twenty-three Hall of Famers, including Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Walter Johnson. The 1927 Exhibits (3-3/8 x 5-3/8 inches) have a green tint and are blank-backed. Complete sets of Exhibit cards from the 1920s are extremely rare. This set is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Exhibit card collection, assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, that is being offered in a number of smaller lots (mostly by year) in this auction. Keys: Alexander (Vg-Ex), Bancroft (Vg), Bottomley (Vg-Ex), Cobb (Gd), Collins (Ex), Cuyler (Ex), Gehrig (Fr-Gd), Gehringer (Ex), Goslin (Ex), Grimes (Ex), Hartnett (Vg-Ex), Heilmann (Ex), Hornsby (Vg-Ex), Johnson (Gd), Lazzeri (Gd), Lindstrom (Ex), Rixey (Ex), Ruth (Pr), Schalk (Vg), Sisler (Gd; it is interesting to note Sisler's name on this card is misspelled as "Sissler"), Speaker (Gd), Traynor (Ex), and Wheat (Gd). The balance of the cards range from Good to Ex (with a couple lesser). Most have been downgraded for writing (pencil or ink) on the back. As can easily be seen from the images provided, even the lower-graded cards have tremendous visual appeal, in most cases far better than suggested by their technical grades. Exhibits are extremely substantial, far rarer than many other cards from the era, and represent an extraordinary collecting value for quality cards from the 1920s. Total: 64 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $2,350
