1916 H801-9 Globe Clothing Store #38 Ty Cobb
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,115
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive example of this rare black-and-white card featuring the legendary Hall of Famer Ty Cobb in one of his most classic poses. The 1916 H801-9 Globe card is identical to M101-4 Sporting News except for the different advertisement on the reverse. Though M101-4s are listed in the American Card Catalog as being issued with various backs, Jefferson Burdick also elected to assign the Globe Clothier store backs their own catalog number (H801-9). The card grades a very solid Very Good to Excellent condition. It is bright, crisp, and perfectly clean front and back, with superb photo contrast, no creases, and even wear to the corners. The reverse has the "The Globe" advertisement crisply and boldly printed in black. This is a very interesting Cobb rarity with tremendous eye-appeal, dating from the heart of Cobb’s great career, an era in which there were relatively few card sets issued. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115
