1928 Zeenut PCL Ernie Lombardi Rookie

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,058

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC (with none graded by PSA)! Very scarce and desirable rookie card of Hall of Famer Ernie Lombardi from the 1928 Zeenut PCL series. This is one of only three cards of Lombardi issued during his playing days in the PCL (the others are the 1929 and 1930 Zeenuts, which are also offered in this auction). He is pictured here in full uniform with the Oakland Oaks of the Pacific Coast League, before his Major League playing days with the Cincinnati Reds. Very conservatively graded by SGC. The card is bright and crisp, with light wear on the corners (a little more wear on the top left and right), a virtually undetectable surface crease near Lombardi's right hand, and outstanding photo clarity. The blank back has minor soiling. This card would make a significant addition to any world-class collection of sample cards, high-grade rarities, Hall of Famers, or prewar cards. Extremely attractive (and, for a Zeenut, high-grade) example of one of Ernie Lombardi's rarest and most desirable cards. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,058
