1927 Zeenut PCL Complete Set (145) Including Averill, Hooper, O'Doul
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,819
Complete set of all 145 different (set of 144 plus one variation for a total of 145 cards) 1927 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by Hall of Famers Earl Averill and Harry Hooper, and also Lefty O'Doul. The 1927 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Hollywood, Los Angeles, Mission, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Seattle). A complete set such as this is very rarely offered. This is the first time we have ever offered a set of 1927 Zeenuts. The cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt from the front (with a few slightly lesser), but technically grade lower due to a brief notation representing the player's position written on the back of each card in either pencil or ink (except for five cards that have no writing). We have submitted three key cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: Earl Averill (FAIR 20, Vg-Ex appearance on the front downgraded for "CF" written on the back), Harry Hooper (POOR 10, Vg front with writing and paper loss on back), O'Doul (GOOD 30, Vg front with pencil writing on back), Prothro (Vg front with writing on back), and Reese (Ex front with pencil writing on back). As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1927 Zeenut set is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 145 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,819
