1925 Zeenut PCL Complete Set Minus 2 (162/164) Including Lloyd Waner Rookie, Paul Waner, Lazzeri, O'Doul
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,994
Complete set minus 2 (missing Martin/Portland and Mulcahy for completion) of 162 different (of the 164 in set as checklisted in The Standard Catalog ) 1925 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by Hall of Famers Lloyd Waner (rookie card), Paul Waner, and Tony Lazzeri, and also Babe Herman (rookie card) and Lefty O'Doul. The 1925 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). A complete set (minus 2) such as this is very rarely seen. This is the first near-complete set of 1925 Zeenuts we have ever offered. The cards range from Vg to Ex-Mt from the front (with a few slightly lesser), but technically grade lower due to the player's position neatly written on the back of each card in either pencil or ink (except for eighteen cards that have no writing). We have submitted four cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: Herman (FAIR 20, Ex-Mt appearance from the front downgraded for the letters "L.F." to indicate his position as left fielder written in ink on the back), Tony Lazzeri (FAIR 20, Vg-Ex appearance from the front downgraded for the letters "S.S." to indicate his position as shortstop written in ink on the back), O'Doul (FAIR 20, Ex appearance from the front downgraded for paper loss and the letters "r.f." to indicate his position as right fielder written in ink on the back), Reese (Fr), Lloyd Waner (FAIR 20, Ex-Mt appearance from the front downgraded for his name "Lloyd" and the letters "sub. of." written in ink on the back), and Paul Waner (Gd, no writing on back). As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1925 Zeenut set (minus 2) is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 162 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,994
