1924 Zeenut PCL Complete Set (144) Including Cochrane Rookie, Paul Waner, and Yellowhorse
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,994
Complete set of all 144 different 1924 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by Hall of Famers Mickey Cochrane (rookie card) and Paul Waner, and also Moses Yellowhorse. The 1924 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). A complete set such as this is very rarely seen. This is the first complete 1924 Zeenut set we have ever offered.
The cards range in grade from Vg to Ex-Mt from the front (with a few slightly lesser), but technically grade lower due to the player's position neatly written on the back of each card in either pencil or ink (except for five cards that have no writing). We have submitted three key cards to be graded by SGC: Mickey Cochrane rookie card (FAIR 20, Vg-Ex appearance on the front, downgraded for "catcher" written on the back), Paul Waner (FAIR 20, Vg appearance on the front, downgraded for "outfield - 1st base" written on the back), and Yellowhorse (POOR 10, Vg-Ex/Ex appearance on the front, downgraded for paper loss and "pitch" written on the back). As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1924 Zeenut set is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 144 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,994
