1922 Zeenut PCL Complete Set Minus 1 (161/162) Including Lazzeri Rookie and Cueto
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $6,463
Complete set minus 1 (missing only Thorpe, which is offered separately in this auction) of 161 different 1922 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by the rookie card of Hall of Famer Tony Lazzeri, and also Manuel Cueto. The 1922 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). A complete set (minus 1) such as this is very rarely seen. This is the first near-set we have ever offered. 35% of the cards range from Vg to Ex (with a couple Ex-Mt), and 65% range from Pr to Gd-Vg. Keys: Tony Lazzeri (Fr) and Cueto (Gd-Vg). As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards (even those in the lowest grades) have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1922 Zeenut set (minus 1) is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 161 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $6,463
