1912 Zeenut PCL Partial Set (119/159) Including Bancroft Rookie
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,813
Collection of 119 different (of the 159 in set as checklisted in The Standard Catalog ) 1912 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players, highlighted by the rookie card of Hall of Famer Dave Bancroft (Fair condition, hole-punch cancel). The 1912 Zeenut set is comprised of players from six different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Vernon). A large group such as this is very rarely seen or offered. Sixteen of the cards range from Vg to Vg-Ex, sixty-one range from Pr to Gd-Vg, and forty-two cards have the factory hole-punch cancellation. Eleven cards have the "Save Zeenut Pictures For valuable premiums" advertisement printed on the back. The collection consists of the following: Ables, Agnew, Altman, Auer, Baker (horizontal), Baker (vertical), Bancroft, Baum, Bayless, Berger, Berry, Bohen, Boles, Brackenridge, Brashear, Brooks (Oakland), Brown, Burrell, Butler, Byram, Carlisle, Carson, Castleton, Chadbourne, Chech, Cheek, Christian, Cook, Corhan, Coy, Daley, Dillon, Doane, Driscoll, Durbin, Fanning, Fisher, Frick, Gaddy, Gedeon, Gilligan, Girot, Gray, Gregory, Hamilton (Oakland), Harkness, Hartley, Heitmuller, Henley, Hetling (glove open), Hiester, Higginbottom, Hitt, Hoffman, Hogan, Hosp, Howard, Howley, Ireland, Jackson, Johnson, Kane, Klawitter, Knight, Koestner (P visible), Koestner (no P visible), LaLonge, Leard, Leverenz, Lewis, Litschi, Lober, Madden, Mahoney, Malarkey, Martinoni, McArdle, McCorrey, McCredie, McDonald, McDowell, McIver, Meikle, Metzger, Miller (Sac.), Mitze, Mohler, Mundorf (batting), Nagle, Noyes, O’Rourke, Page, Parkins, Patterson (Oakland), Pope, Powell, Price, Raftery, Rapps (P visible), Rapps (no P visible), Rodgers, Rohrer, Schmidt, Sharpe, Sheehan, Shinn, Slagle, Smith, Stinson, Stone, Swain, Taylor, Tiederman, Toner, Tozer, Van Buren, Whalen, Williams (Sac.), and Zacher. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. This 1912 Zeenut partial set is part of an extraordinary comprehensive Zeenut collection, the finest we have ever handled. The collection was assembled over a period of many years by an extremely advanced pioneer collector, and has been broken down by year into a number of smaller but still very substantial lots. Total: 119 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $8,813
