1889 N172 Old Judge Ed Delahanty - Rookie Card!

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $8,225

Graded EX 5 by PSA. Highest-graded non-qualified example by PSA! One of only two examples graded at this level by PSA. Extremely high grade N172 example of Ed Delahanty (pose #123-1 - bat on right shoulder, 2d B., Phila), one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. All six poses of Ed Delahanty in Old Judge were issued only in 1889, a particularly scarce year compared to 1887 and 1888, no doubt contributing to Delahanty's significant rarity. While this card features Delahanty with the Philadelphia Nationals in his second year in the majors, it is the first of his few baseball cards ever issued, and as such is recognized as Delahanty's rookie card. This card has even wear on the still somewhat square corners and a very tiny surface crease toward the top of the left edge. Strong contrast. The blank reverse has light natural toning and is perfectly clean. A very attractive and high-grade example of one of the key nineteenth-century and Old Judge Hall of Famer rarities. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $8,225
