1887 N172 Old Judge Dan Brouthers

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $940

Graded VG 40 by SGC. 1887 N172 Old Judge card of Hall of Famer Dan Brouthers (#43-2) with Detroit posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. The image on this card is extraordinarily bold with extremely strong contrast (of particular note as this is the most important quality of N172s in the eyes of most Old Judge collectors). Very clean, both front and back, with a slight natural diamond cut. Brouthers was a five-time batting champion who led the NL in slugging percentage each of his first six full seasons, and is one of the most prominent of all nineteenth-century Hall of Famers. This is a very attractive Hall of Famer example from the nineteenth century's most revered set. Reserve $300. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $940
