1902-1911 W600 Sporting Life Hall of Fame Cabinet Collection Including Two HOFers (4)
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,645
Collection of four W600 Sporting Life cabinets, highlighted by two Hall of Famers, in low grade but still very collectible. Three are trimmed, and the remaining one (HOFer Sam Crawford) is not trimmed. 1) Sam Crawford (not trimmed). Three areas of surface paper loss, two at the top and one at the bottom right, otherwise Excellent condition. One piece of paper tape across the blank back. 2) Mordecai Brown (trimmed across top and bottom). Moisture stains and a touch of paper loss on the top right with one piece of paper tape on the reverse. 3) John Kling (trimmed across the top). The image area is virtually flawless. One piece of paper tape across the blank back. 4) George Mullin (trimmed across the top). A few areas of paper loss on the right portion of the card and a surface scratch near Mullin's forehead. One piece of paper tape across the blank back. While condition is always of utmost importance with regard to value, and these are low-grade examples, the cards are clean, the portraits are unaffected by the condition problems, and the integrity of each card remains very much intact. These W600s were discovered relatively recently (along with Cobb, Mathewson, and Joss, which were also trimmed, and which were offered in REA's 2010 auction) by a political items collector who in his travels just happened to come across these rare cards. This group represents a very rare opportunity to obtain extremely attractive low-grade examples of these high-demand rarities for a very small fraction of what these cards would sell for in an undamaged state. Total: 4 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,645
