1887 N173 Old Judge Cabinet Fred Pfeffer

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet example of Fred Pfeffer, Chicago second baseman, posed in front of an elaborate studio backdrop. This is an magnificent high-grade N173 example with an EX-MT appearance (it has been downgarded due to the most minute imperfections such as a small hint of staining on the otherwise perfectly clean reverse; all N173s should look this great! We grade this card higher than SGC). The image on this card is extremely bold, with extraordinary contrast and tremendous detail. Very bright, crisp, and clean, both front and back. This is an outstanding sample from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. This extremely striking N173 example is one of a small but exciting recent find of four N173s (including three HOFers) consigned to this auction, all new to the hobby. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,115
