1909-1911 T206 White Borders Collection Including Two Ty Cobbs and O'Hara, St. Louis (144)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113

Collection of 144 assorted 1909-1911 T206 White Borders (mostly different but includes a few duplicates) highlighted by twenty-six Hall of Famers including two Cobbs, Mathewson, and Young. Also included is a low-grade example of T206 rarity Bill O'Hara, St. Louis variation. 20% range from Gd to Gd-Vg (includes a few slightly better), 60% are lesser grades (mostly Fr) but are still great-looking cards, and 20% appear Vg or better (in many cases with an Excellent appearance) but have a slight trim. Keys: Bender/trees (Pr), Bender/port. (Pr), Bresnahan/port. (Fr), Brown/Cubs (trimmed), Chance/red (Pr), Cicotte/"Black Sox" (Gd), two Clarke/port. (both Pr), Ty Cobb/green (Fr), Ty Cobb/red (trimmed, Old Mill back), Collins/Phila. (Fr-Gd), Davis/Chicago (Gd), Evers/port. (Fr-Gd, Sovereign back), Evers/Chicago (Gd-Vg), Evers/Cubs (Pr), Flick (Fr), Jennings/one hand (Pr), Jennings/two hands (trimmed, Polar Bear back), Kleinow/Boston (Pr), Joss/port. (Pr), Lajoie/throwing (Fr), Mathewson/dark cap (Pr-Fr), McGinnity (Pr), O'Hara/St. Louis (Pr), Smith/Chi. & Bos. (trimmed, Polar Bear back), Speaker (Pr), Waddell/port. (Pr), Waddell/throwing (Gd), Wallace (Gd-Vg), and Cy Young/glove (Pr, Polar Bear back). The Poor condition example of the O’Hara, St. Louis T206 variation that is included has several significant creases and is missing two corners. Though it is in extremely low grade (perhaps the lowest-grade card in the collection), it is still an authentic card of this highly desirable T206 rarity. This lot is ideal for the collector who wants original, authentic circa 1910 tobacco cards, which capture the spirit of the history of the game and collecting, but does not want to spend a fortune. This is a very substantial low-grade group including twenty-six Hall of Famers! Backs almost all Sweet Caporal and Piedmont, but also included are Cycle, El Principe De Gales, American Beauty, Sovereign, Old Mill, and Polar Bear. Total: 144 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,113
