1910 PC796 Sepia Nap Lajoie Postcard
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $940
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Stunning example of Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie from the rare and highly regarded PC796 sepia postcard set issued in 1910. This card is one of the highlights from a collection of nine PC796 postcards that have just recently been discovered by a noncollecting family, and are being offered as seven different lots in this auction. The manufacturer of this sepia-toned postcard series is unknown. The PC796 set is one of the most striking sets of the era. This is an outstanding example of one of the most impressive cards ever issued of Hall of Famer Nap Lajoie. Bright and crisp, both front and back, a hint of wear on the corners, and the faint hint of a small, light crease above his name (almost impossible to see from the front), and the faintest hint of an impression from storage in an old-fashioned style photo album (the type in which cards are "tipped in") in the upper left and lower right corners (barely visible and even then mostly from the reverse). This card would make a significant addition to any high-grade Nap Lajoie, Hall of Famer, or prewar-card collection. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $940
