1933 R338 Sport Kings Partial Set Including 2 Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth (20 of 48 Plus 10 Duplicates)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,819

Collection of thirty 1933 R338 Sport Kings includes twenty different cards (out of 48 in set), highlighted by two Ty Cobbs and Babe Ruth, two of the key cards to this classic multisport 1930s prewar gum issue. These cards are part of an original "childhood" collection consigned to this auction by the family of the original owner. The twenty-different cards represent 42% of the set, a great start toward the assembly of a mid-grade complete set of these popular classics. We have selected six cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. All thirty cards are graded individually as follows: Two #1 Cobb (both SGC VG 40), 2 Babe Ruth (SGC VG 40), two 3 Holman (Vg and Gd), 4 Grange (SGC VG/EX 50), 5 Wachter (Vg), 6 Thorpe (SGC GOOD 30), two 7 Walthour, Sr. (both Vg/Vg-Ex), two 8 Hagen (SGC VG 40 and Fr), two 9 Blood (Vg and Gd-Vg), two 11 Jewtraw (Vg-Ex and Vg), 12 McLean (Gd), two 13 Fator (Vg and Fr), two 14 Londos (Vg-Ex and Gd), 15 McNamara (Vg), 16 Tilden (Vg), two 17 Dempsey (Gd and Fr), 18 Tunney (Vg), 21 Weissmuller (Fr), two 22 Sarazen (Gd and Fr), and 24 Morenz (Fr). This is a very attractive mid-grade partial set of one of the 1930s most popular issues highlighted by Ruth and two Cobbs. The equivalent SMR value for just the six graded cards (not including the twenty-four ungraded cards) is $2,870. Total: 30 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $3,819
