1967 Leaf Star Trek Complete Set (72): #5 PSA Set Registry (GPA 7.63)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,875

Presented is an extraordinary high-grade complete set of all seventy-two cards from the 1967 Star Trek series, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA. This set is listed on the PSA Set Registry as the fifth-highest graded set, with an average grade of 7.63. Leaf made one of the worst business moves in its history by going ahead with the production of its 1967 "Star Trek" set. The entire first print run was wrapped, boxed, and cased, before Leaf discovered that they were not going to receive the proper licensing approvals to release the set. They had no alternative other than to destroy the entire inventory. As all collectors are aware, some cases were distributed, although only a few. This is widely recognized to be one of the rarest and most desirable of all 1960s card sets. As the first of the many "Star Trek" card sets to come, it is now considered a classic. The complete PSA condition composite follows: Fifty-two NM-MT 8: #2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 34, 35, 36, 38, 39, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59, 60, 61, 63, 65, 67, 71, and 72. Fifteen NM 7: #9, 16, 26, 32, 33, 37, 40, 47, 52, 58, 64, 66, 68, 69, and 70. One EX-MT+ 6.5: #62. Two EX-MT 6: #10 and 20. Two EX 5: #1 and 3. This is a remarkably crisp, fresh, ultra high-grade complete set of one of the most popular of all 1960s nonsport issues. Star Trek is one of the few television shows of the 1960s to survive with its popularity intact (and, if anything, even greater) to this day. This is one of the finest 1967 Leaf Star Trek sets we have ever offered. (Note: this set has been reprinted; these are 1967 originals.) The SMR value of PSA NM-MT 8 cards is $65 per card; the SMR value of PSA NM 7 cards is $40; the total SMR value of the set is $4,085 (there is no SMR value for the EX-MT+ 6.5 grade, so the one example graded at this level was calculated using the EX-MT 6 value). Total 72 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $5,875
