The 1959 Fleer "Three Stooges" is one of the most popular sets in the entire world of nonsport-card collecting. When this color set was issued in 1959, the Stooges' movie shorts were being introduced for the first time to a new generation of youngsters on television, and the response was as positive and enthusiastic then as when the trio first attained stardom in the 1930s. Their newfound popularity revitalized their careers, giving the Stooges a second chance to entertain millions with feature-length movies, personal appearances, and many other projects. Their shorts, which were originally produced to be shown as a bonus with feature films at movie theaters, are still shown on television today, ensuring a legion of new fans in each successive generation, and promoting The Stooges' status as American icons of comedy. This card set was issued as their popularity and careers were revitalized in the television era, and has been increasingly appreciated as one of nonsport-card collecting's great classics. This is an extraordinary high-grade complete set of this extremely popular 1950s nonsport issue. It is literally one of the finest and highest-grade complete sets ever assembled in the history of collecting! The total SMR value for the individual cards (not including the three qualified Checklist cards) is $23,237 (there is no SMR value for the NM-MT+ 8.5 grade, so the nineteen examples graded at this level were calculated using the NM-MT 8 value), and this does not begin to take into account the time and effort required to assemble a set in this grade. Total: 99 cards (set of 96 plus 3 rare checklist cards). Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000/$15,000++. SOLD FOR $17,625
