1940 R83 Gum, Inc. Lone Ranger Complete Set (48) Plus #4 Premium

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,115

Complete 48-card set of the 1940 "Lone Ranger" gum-card set: 50% range from Vg-Ex to Ex, 50% Vg (including a few slightly lesser). The twelve high-number cards (#37-48) are traditionally recognized as particularly scarce (although #25-36 were printed on the same 24-card sheet and therefore may be equally scarce). Five high-number cards grade Vg-Ex or better, seven grade Vg. Gum, Inc.'s 1940 "Lone Ranger" series is one of the most popular nonsport sets ever issued. Its outstanding color, detailed artwork, popular subject matter, and the exciting adventures presented on the backs, all contribute to making this set one of nonsport collecting's all-time classics. This is a very attractive set, with even the lowest-graded Vg cards having an overall better appearance. A very light crease (or two) and a little minor corner and edge wear. This is an extremely attractive set with across-the-board outstanding eye-appeal. The set is accompanied by an original large-format "Lone Ranger" Gum, Inc. premium (#4 "Tonto Fights Off the Troopers"), one of a set of five and itself a significant rarity, which has always been considered among the most highly prized of all 1930s nonsport premiums. The premium (8 x 10 inches) has a small number "35-" in red neatly written in the upper right corner on the reverse (no doubt an old price notation from the early days of the hobby), and otherwise is in exceptionally fine Vg-Ex condition. This is a beautiful set! Total 49 items (48 cards plus premium). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115
