Original Cover Painting for Epic Illustrated #21 (December 1983)
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,880
Original watercolor-on-board painting by highly respected George A. Bush used as the cover art for Epic Illustrated #21, published in December 1983. Epic Illustrated , an adult comic-book anthology of fantasy and science fiction, was launched in 1980 by Marvel Comics. It was intended to compete with the popular Heavy Metal magazine, but after a promising start it never garnered the same audience appeal. Six years and thirty-six issues later, Marvel canceled the publication. While the magazine may be gone, its attractive cover illustrations, many of which were created by some of the industry's best, including Frazetta, Corbin, and Vallejo, continue to leave an indelible impression on fans of the genre. This artwork, featuring a scantily clad female warrior against an otherworldly backdrop, represents the only cover artwork produced by Bush for the magazine. Together with an original copy of Epic Illustrated #21. Dimensions: 13.25 x 20 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
