1927 W. A. A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers" (Large) Complete Set (12): #1 PSA Set Registry!

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $18,800

Stunning high-grade complete twelve-card set of 1927 W. A. & A. C. Churchman "Famous Golfers - Series of 12" cards, highlighted by the legendary Bobby Jones. This is currently the number-one All-Time Finest set in the world on the PSA Registry! Each card has been graded and encapsulated by PSA. The set includes ten PSA NM-MT 8s (highlighted by Jones and Hagen), and two NM 7s. The PSA registry overall weighted GPA rating is 7.88. Inscribed as "Series of 12" on the reverse, this large-card variety of Famous Golfers is extremely rare and compliments its 50-card smaller version of the same year. Most advanced collectors would agree that this larger-card variety is about 25 times as rare as the scarce smaller version. This is an extraordinary set which has been assembled over a period of many years, with the express purpose of assembling the best set in the world. The PSA grades are as follows: Eleven NM-MT 8: #2 Braid (HOF), 3 Duncan , 4 Hagen (HOF), 5 Herd, 6 Holderness, 7 Jones (HOF), 9 Ray, 10 Taylor (HOF), 11 Vardon (HOF), and Wethered (HOF). Two NM 7: #1 Ball (HOF) and 8 Mitchell. Eleven of these cards are the highest-ever PSA-graded examples. One additional card has only one example graded higher. Compared to vintage baseball cards, golf cards are beginning to be recognized as offering an outstanding value. This is a remarkable high-grade complete set of one of the most highly prized golf sets of the era, and one of the highlight sets of The Jack Zugay Collection. The SMR value for the individual cards is $17,925. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000+.
