1986-1987 Fleer Basketball Blueline Proof Sheets Including Michael Jordan Rookie (2) Plus Press Release Items

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,763

This lot includes two very possibly unique and enormously significant 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball 66-card blank-backed blueline proof sheets. These sheets are not to be confused with blue-and-white color process sheets. These are the blueline proof sheets that were created by the printer specifically as the final check on design and image positions prior to approval for printing. These sheets represent an essential step in the printing approval process for the 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball set. Both sheets together represent a complete blueline set of all 132 cards in the 1986-87 Fleer Basketball set including numerous rookie cards and Hall of Famers highlighted by Michael Jordan's rookie card. Final blueline sheets are printed in blue and white on thin paper stock (as opposed to card stock) and are very rarely seen. These very sheets were instrumental in manufacturing the historic 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball set. Each sheet (30 x 24 inches) displays one vertical and one horizontal fold line, and nine binder holes along the bottom (for filing purposes). Visually impressive, and possibly unique. These sheets are thin as opposed to cardboard stock; aside from the filing folds they are in Excellent condition overall. Also included, and also of great significance and rarity, is a three-piece press packet consisting of the following: 1) original one-page press release on Fleer stationery; 2) full-color advertising sheet illustrating two cards (Cummings and Vandeweghe were chosen for this honor), and 3) original glossy black-and-white press-release photo (5 x 7 inches), issued by Fleer to announce the release of the 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball series. These are all extremely interesting and historically significant items we have never seen before relating to the most important basketball set of the modern era. Total: 5 items (2 blueline sheets, 1 press release document, 1 advertising sheet, and 1 press release photo). Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,763
