1957-1958 Topps Basketball Complete Set (80)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938

85% range from Vg-Ex to Ex (includes a few Ex-Mt), and 15% Vg. We have selected three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Keys: #1 Clifton RC (10/90 T/B, otherwise Ex), 5 Sharman RC (10/90 T/B, otherwise Vg-Ex/Ex), 10 Arizin RC (miscut, no right or top borders, otherwise Vg-Ex/Ex), 15 Ramsey RC (30/70 L/R and T/B, otherwise Ex), 17 Cousy RC (SGC VG/EX 50), 19 Heinsohn RC (SGC VG/EX 50), 24 Pettit RC (Ex), 28 Mikkelsen RC (Vg-Ex), 32 Kerr RC (10/90 L/R, otherwise Ex), 37 Hagan RC (70/30 L/R and 30/70 T/B, otherwise Ex), 42 Stokes RC (5/95 T/B, otherwise Ex), 43 Hundley RC (Vg-Ex), 71 Twyman RC (5/95 T/B, otherwise Ex), 77 Russell RC (SGC VG 40), 78 Lovellette RC (25/75 L/R and T/B, otherwise Ex), 80 Schnittker RC (90/10 L/R and 5/95 T/B, otherwise Vg-Ex). This is Topps' first basketball set, and the only basketball set Topps issued during the 1950s. It apparently did not sell well as Topps did not follow up with another basketball set until 1969. The set includes the rookie cards of all of the major stars of the era. 1957 Topps Basketball is well known for production quality issues, making the assembling of high-quality sets particularly challenging. This is a very attractive complete set of this extremely significant basketball issue. Total: 80 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,938
