1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Jesse Burkett
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,113
Graded VG-EX+ 4.5 by PSA. Presented is an exceptionally strong example of one of the key Hall of Famers from the prized T204 Ramly series: Jesse Burkett. Burkett is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Ramly Tobacco set. In addition to being one of the most important cards in the Ramly set, this is arguably the most majestic of the very few cards ever issued of Jesse Burkett. Burkett's career spanned sixteen years (1890-1905). During his career he batted over .400 three times, a feat duplicated only by Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby. After leaving the Major Leagues, Burkett owned and managed the Worcester club of the New England League (the team with which he is featured on this card), from 1906 to 1913, making regular appearances in the outfield until he was 45. The card has just a hint of natural light, even wear on the corners and very little wear to the extremely condition-sensitive borders. The portrait is particularly strong and crystal-clear, and both the front and back are flawlessly clean. This is a gorgeous card that has been downgraded from EX due to a couple very faint surface wrinkles in the lower left corner of the reverse. Extremely impressive and attractive example of one of the great 1910-era Hall of Fame tobacco cards, and one of the most important cards from this beautiful and extremely condition-sensitive set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+. SOLD FOR $4,113
