1909 T204 Ramly Tobacco Dineen - Square Frame
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $1,763
Graded POOR 10 by SGC. T204 Ramly "square border" variation card of St. Louis Browns pitcher Bill Dineen. This is one of three square-frames that were among the highlights of a small but remarkable original-owner collection that included forty-nine T204 Ramlys, four T208 Firesides, fifty T206s, and sixty T205s, all new to the organized collecting world and presented in a total of sixteen lots in this auction. "Square frame" Ramlys are one of tobacco-card collecting's most legendary and elusive rarities. Six cards in the T204 Ramly set are known to exist with this distinctive square-frame design. All are extremely rare. Only a few examples of each T204 "square frame" card are known, and each is far rarer than many of the most well known tobacco-card rarities such as the T206 Wagner or Plank. The card has a bright, crisp, and clean portrait image, with light wear on the corners, and some chipping along the bottom border (responsible for the harsh grade). The blank back is relatively clean. This is a very attractive example of one of the rarest variations from the classic T204 Ramly set. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,763
