Extremely Rare 1942 St. Louis Cardinals World Series Press Pin

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,644

St. Louis Cardinals press pin issued for the 1942 World Series against the New York Yankees. This press pin is one of the great rarities of the modern era. One contributing reason for its scarcity today lies in its construction. Dating from World War II, when the conservation of all metal was deemed vital to the war effort, this pin, like the Cardinals' 1943 pin, was constructed as economically as possible with the simplest of materials: an illustrated paper facing, a cardboard backing, and a transparent plastic covering. The image features the team's familiar Cardinal logo with the words "Press St. Louis 1942." The Cardinals defeated the Yankees in five games in 1942, thus capturing their fourth World Championship in franchise history. This is the first example of this rare pin we have ever offered and it is seldom seen outside of only the most advanced World Series press pin collections. Manufactured by St. Louis Button; brooch. Diameter: 2 inches. The pin displays light-to-moderate surface wear and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,644
