1909 Pittsburg Pirates Team Pin
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,293
Extremely rare 1909 Pittsburg Pirates celluloid pinback features composite portraits of the entire team including Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Fred Clarke, and Vic Willis, above the caption "1909 Pittsburg Pirates N.L. Champions." The Wagner portrait is the same as was used on his famous T206 baseball card. Although this celluloid cannot compare in value to the T206 Wagner, it is actually considerably rarer, with probably no more than a dozen examples known. Manufacturer's credit "J.B. Carroll, Chicago" appears on the curl. Normal rusting on the reverse, a few tiny pinpont bumps and insignificant surface scratches visible when held in light at just the right angle. A tremendous example of one of the era's great team celluloid pins in overall Excellent condition. Diameter: 2.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,293
