Joe DiMaggio's Personal Swiss 14K Gold Watch
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $1,293
14K gold wristwatch originating directly from Joe DiMaggio's estate. The vintage gold watch features Roman numerals and is marked "George Unger/17 Jewels" on the watch front. Additional markings on the watch front read "Incabloc" (a brand of shockproof mounting) and "Swiss Made." The watch features a 14K gold mesh band and a 14K gold dial and casing. This watch was originally offered at public auction in 2006 during the sale of Joe DiMaggio's estate and is accompanied by an LOA titled "The Joe DiMaggio Collection at Public Auction Letter of Provenance" signed by his two granddaughters (Paula DiMaggio Hamra and Kathie DiMaggio Stein) attesting to its provenance. While the watch itself has not changed since the time of its initial offering, the price of gold has. Just the gold alone of this timepiece is now worth approximately $1,300, to say nothing of its presentation as a George Unger Swiss watch or provenance of having once been owned (and presumably worn) by the famed "Yankee Clipper." The watch is not in working order (it could easily be repaired by a qualified jeweler) and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,293
