1918 Rube Marquard Son Photo by George Bain
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $529
This heartwarming scene of Hall of Famer Rube Marquard interacting with his son, Rube Jr., on the top step of the dugout was captured by noted baseball photographer George Grantham Bain in 1917. The Junior Marquard probably had a remarkable childhood for not only did he have a father who was a famed Major League pitcher but his mother, Blossom Seeley, was a renowned vaudeville singer. The stamped caption on the reverse reads "Rube Marquard/pitcher of Brooklyn & Son/Apr 18, 1918." A number of Culver news service stamps and/or labels appear on the reverse, as does a 1992 Culver "Deaccessioned" stamp. Although the stamped date on the reverse reads "1918," the style of uniform shown here, with a flag patch on the left breast, was only worn by the Brooklyn Robins in 1917. This is a tremendous image. The photo (6 x 4 inches) is in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $529
