1921 New York Yankees Team Press Photo - First American League Championship in Franchise History!
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,233
Rare original press photo, originating from The Baltimore Sun archives, capturing the 1921 American League champion New York Yankees in a traditional team pose. Twenty-eight team members are pictured dressed in their home uniforms as they pose in front of the grandstand at the Polo Grounds, including Babe Ruth, manager Miller Huggins, Frank Baker, Carl Mays, Waite Hoyt, Aaron Ward, Wally Pipp, Bob Meusel, Wally Schang, Roger Peckinpaugh, and Bob Shawkey. The team, year, and all of the players are identified on a paper news caption affixed to the reverse that bears the headline "New York Yankees American League Champions 1921." Additional reverse markings include a "Keystone View Co., Inc. of N. Y." stamp and a date stamp reading "Oct 11 1921." This is a historic photo as it pictures the Yankees' first pennant-winning club in franchise history. Not by coincidence, 1921 also marked the year in which Babe Ruth astounded the baseball world by hitting a then-record fifty-four home runs. This photo originates directly from The Baltimore Sun archives and is accompanied by an LOA from The Baltimore Sun attesting to its authenticity. The LOA also makes note that all copyrights for this image remain with The Baltimore Sun . The photo (8.5 x 6.5 inches) displays minor creases in the upper right and lower left corners and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,233
