1956 New York Yankees World Champions Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,645
New York Yankees team-signed ball dating from Mantle's historic Triple Crown season. The official American League (Harridge) ball has been signed in blue ink by the following twenty-seven members of the 1956 World Champion New York Yankees: Mantle (sweet spot), Berra (sweet spot), Martin, Rizzuto, Ford, Howard, Carroll, Collins, Grim, Turley, McDermott, Silvera, McDougald, Skowron, Coleman, Hunter, Kucks, Terry, Siebern, Byrne, Carey, Morgan, Cerv, Larsen, Bauer, and two others (very faint/illegible). The signatures range from "6" to "9," averaging "7/8," with the exception of two (faint). Mantle captured the Triple Crown in 1956 by virtue of his league-leading totals in batting average (.353), home runs (52), and RBI (130). Those extraordinary numbers also helped Mantle garner the American League MVP Award at season's end. Mantle's resurgence also helped lead the Yankees to their fifth World Championship of the decade. The ball displays moderate surface wear and the manufacturer's stampings are light, but legible. In Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200.
