Early Hall of Fame Cut-Signature Collection Including Cy Young (10)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,644

This collection of eleven different Hall of Fame cut-signature examples is especially notable for the fact that nearly all of the players represented here plied their trade during baseball's famed "dead ball" era. For display purposes, each cut has been mounted (by means of adhesive) and framed together with an example of the respective player's Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcard. 1) Larry Lajoie. Black fountain-pen signature (grading "6") on an unlined card (3 x 5 inches). The date "3-17-50" is written (presumably in Lajoie's hand) in black fountain pen along the base. Ex; with a few light creases. Total dimensions: 15 x 10 inches. 2) Cy Young. Blue-ink signature ("10") on an unlined card (5.25 x 3.25 inches). Young has also added the date ("3/21-42") and the town name "Peoli, O." (Young lived in Peoli, Ohio, during his retirement) above and below his name, respectively. Ex-Mt. Together with the original mailing envelope, postmarked March 23, 1942 from Peoli, Ohio. Total dimensions: 12 x 16 inches. 3) Herb Pennock. Pencil signature ("7") on a small sheet of green paper (4.5 x 2 inches). Ex. Total dimensions: 9 x 12.75 inches. 4-5) Max Carey and Zach Wheat (both signatures on the same sheet).
