1889 N172 Old Judge Ed Delahanty - Bat On Shoulder
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,938
Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Extremely pleasing N172 example of Ed Delahanty (bat on right shoulder, 2d B., Phila), one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. All six poses of Ed Delahanty in Old Judge were issued only in 1889, a particularly scarce year compared to 1887 and 1888, no doubt contributing to Delahanty's significant rarity. While this card features Delahanty with the Philadelphia Nationals in his second year in the majors, it is the first of his few baseball cards ever issued, and as such is recognized as Delahanty's rookie card. This card has light wear on the corners, a heavy horizontal crease through his knees, and several light surface creases not particularly visible on the front but that can be detected on the reverse. Although appropriately given the lowest possible SGC grade, this is still a very attractive low-grade example of one of the key nineteenth-century and Old Judge Hall of Famer rarities. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $2,938
