1889 N172 Old Judge Ed Delahanty - SGC NM 84

Starting Bid - $2,500, Sold For - $16,450

Graded NM 84 by SGC. The only N172 Ed Delahanty graded at this level by SGC, with just one graded higher (NM+ 86). Incredible ultra high-grade N172 Old Judge of Ed Delahanty, one of the finest examples in existence of one of the most important cards in the entire Old Judge set. Ed Delahanty is one of the rarest of all Old Judge Hall of Famers. All five poses of Ed Delahanty in Old Judge were issued only in 1889, a particularly scarce year compared to 1887 and 1888, no doubt contributing to Delahanty's significant rarity. While this card features Delahanty with the Philadelphia Nationals in his second year in the Majors, it is the first of his few baseball cards ever issued, and as such would be considered Delahanty's rookie card. This is a simply outstanding card in all respects. It is perfectly clean, both front and back, with four square corners; the photograph is bright and crisp, with superb contrast. This is an extraordinary world-class example of one of the key nineteenth-century and Old Judge Hall of Famer rarities, and would be a significant standout highlight in even the most advanced Old Judge, nineteenth-century, or Hall of Famer card collection. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$10,000. SOLD FOR $16,450
