1887 N172 Old Judge Jack Nelson Spotted Tie - Highest Graded!

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,231

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC! Extremely rare 1887 N172 Old Judge "Spotted Tie" of Jack Nelson. The "Spotted Tie" series, featuring sixteen players from the New York Mets of the American Association, is one of the rarest and most desirable subsets of the N172 Old Judge set. Each player is featured in a portrait pose with his distinctive "Spotted Tie." Presented is an exceptionally strong example from this very rare series. Bright and clean, with no creases, and excellent contrast, and a few minor imperfection to the blank reverse as is typical for Old Judges; the card would grade higher but has a surface flake at the extreme tip of the upper right corner. This is a magnificent, and for this important issue, relatively high-grade sample from the "Spotted Tie" series, which has always been considered to be among the most elusive and significant of all Old Judge subsets. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $3,231
