1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,819

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Extremely attractive example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards: #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This is an unusually attractive example, especially considering its SGC grade: (it has an Excellent appearance), bright and clean, extremely well-centered, with light, even wear to all four corners, a crisp image, and bold colors including a bright yellow background. The back is clean with bold green print set against a white background. Just a little too much corner wear keeps this card from grading slightly higher. This is a very attractive example of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. This is a magnificent example and a very strong card for the grade. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,819
