1921 Exhibits Complete PSA- and SGC-Graded Set (64 cards)

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $5,581

Complete set of sixty-four cards from the classic 1921 Exhibits series, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA (46) and SGC (18). This set includes twenty-one Hall of Famers. Three cards are graded EX-MT, six cards are EX, thirty-two cards are VG-EX, one card is VG+, eleven cards are VG, seven cards are GOOD, two cards are FAIR, one card is POOR, and one card is encapsulated Authentic. As can easily be seen, even the lower-graded cards have tremendous visual appeal, in most cases far better than suggested by their technical grades. 1921 was the very first year the legendary Exhibit Supply Company of Chicago issued cards. They would go on to issue sets for the next fifty years. These cards were sold by Exhibit card machines at amusement parks and penny arcades, one penny per card. The key card from the 1921 Exhibits set features the legendary Babe Ruth. This is one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. Additional Hall of Famers featured in the set include Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby, Walter Johnson, and Tris Speaker, among others (twenty-one HOFers total). The PSA grades are as follows: Three EX-MT 6: Bush, Cruise, and Gardner. Five EX 5: J. Collins, Grimes (HOF, [MK], Jones, Perkins, and Whitted. Twenty-two VG-EX 4: Adams, Bancroft (HOF), Daubert (MK), Faber (HOF), Fournier, Gowdy, Harris (HOF), Kerr, Killefer, Lavan, Mays, McInnis, Neale, Olsen, O'Neil, Peckinpaugh, Ring, Shang, Scott (MK), Shanks, Veach, and C. Williams. One VG+ 3.5: Haines (HOF). Eight VG 3: E. Collins (HOF), Dauss, Deal, Groh (MK), Hollicher, Naylor, Shocker, and Wheat (HOF). Five GOOD 2: Dykes, Frisch (HOF), Maranville (HOF), Powell (MK), and Ruth (HOF). One PR 1: K. Williams. One Authentic: Coveleski (HOF). The SGC grades are as follows: One EX 60: Konetchy. Ten VG/EX 50: Carey (HOF), Holke, Hornsby (HOF), J. Johnson, W. Johnson (HOF), Kelly (HOF), Rapp, Speaker (HOF), Tobin, and Wingo. Three VG 40: Alexander (HOF), Cobb (HOF), and Schalk (HOF). Two GOOD 30: Dugan and Rice (HOF). Two FAIR 20: Burns and Sisler (HOF). In addition to its great significance as the Exhibit Supply Company's first set, Exhibits are both extremely substantial and far rarer than many other cards from the era and present an extraordinary value for quality cards from the 1920s. Total: 64 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
